Fifteen years ago, Chef Carl, The Pizza Gourmet, decided there had to be a better way to prepare pizzeria-style pizza right at home. After months of experimentation and a great deal of research (about 50 pounds worth!) Chef Carl came up with the ultimate pizza ovenstone. A full line of gourmet pizza and baking accessories (now available in kitchen stores nationally) soon followed. Although Chef Carl is not Italian, he is a member in good standing of pizzadom's upper crust. He had a thriving catering business in the Detroit area, a venture that had taken him into over 1000 homes to prepare his unique and delicious pizzas. In a market dominated by chain-pizzarias, Chef Carl is a self-appointed goodwill ambassador of homemade pizza. In an effort to convince the public to kick the "cardboard coffin pizza" habit, he devoted a good deal of his time to teaching cooking classes, giving food demonstrations and attending gourmet trade shows. Television viewers first met Chef Carl on the THE PIZZA GOURMET cooking series which aired on PBS. With recent production of a second PIZZA GOURMET series for PBS, fans old and new will have the opportunity to once again learn the tricks of the trade from this master pizza maker. |
